Why You'll Love It

Original watercolor painting of West Quoddy Head Light captures the iconic candy-striped lighthouse in Lubec, Maine, from the Coastal Trail, where a sheltered cove provides a wonderful side view of the tower and the rocky shoreline stretches out toward Quoddy Narrows.

West Quoddy Head is the easternmost point in the continental United States. The State Park surrounding the lighthouse has trails all along the cliffs and shore. This painting is from the Coastal Trail. If your timing is just right, you may be favored with a whale or seal sighting. I've seen both out in the Quoddy Narrows between Lubec and Campobello Island.

My favorite detail in this painting is the waterline on the beach. It was the most challenging part and I love how it turned out. I wish I was there right now looking for sea glass! I've painted West Quoddy Head Light five or six times and this Coastal Trail perspective is a new favorite. Pairs beautifully with my East Quoddy Head Light and Whitlock Mills prints for a Downeast lighthouse story.
