Why You'll Love It
Original watercolor painting of Japanese Lantern captures the beautiful woodland garden at the Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine.  It's tucked in the heart of Mount Desert Island just across from the Asticou Inn.
The painting was inspired by the azaleas and rhododendrons blooming along the stream, with ferns, mugo pine, and pine needle bedding creating that wonderful earthy, fragrant atmosphere you can almost smell. I love discovering the stone Japanese lanterns nestled in little nooks throughout the garden. They are such a perfect contrast to the verdant moss and lush woodland plantings.
This was painted at the same time as my Lily Pond watercolor, which shows the opposite view along the same path. They look wonderful together as they tell a story.
