If this is a gift, I’m happy to include a special note for the recipient or include an extra card for you to write your own message.

Sailing on the Sound is an original watercolor painting by  Beth Whitney. Relaxing seascape showing sailboats enjoying a leisurely cruise along Somes Sound in Northeast Harbor, Maine.

The winding shore road is Sargent Drive, which is edged with coping stones and wildflowers in places. On the right are cliffs that have waterfalls all along in the spring. Flying Mountain and Valley Cove are over on the left. You’re looking toward Southwest Harbor (home of Hinckley Yachts).

This Sailing on the Sound painting would be a great gift for someone who loves sailing. Even better if they own a Hinckley (I’ve sold a number of original paintings as onboard decor).

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the colors online?

The physical art matches what I see on my computer, but it might look slightly different on yours. For example, the colors are a little more muted on my phone and tablet than on my Mac. Also keep in mind also that the smaller the image, the sharper it appears online and in person.

DO YOU OFFER CUSTOM FRAMING?

I don’t provide framing services myself, but I’m happy to make suggestions!  My 8×12″ and 10×14″ original paintings include a double white archival mats and backing board. They are ready to slip into 12×16″ or 10×14″ frames (easy to find). Buying unframed art enables the recipient to choose a frame that perfectly matches their decor.

Should I buy an original painting or a print?

Original paintings require more of a financial investment up front, but they also appreciate more in value over time. There’s also a satisfaction in knowing you have the only original painting. Giclees are more affordable and look exactly like the original paintings, so they are a great option for many.

While many of my collectors only purchase original art, others like to mix it up with both originals and giclees. It really depends on your budget and philosophy as a collector. If you’re just looking for some pretty paintings to add color or to give as a gift, giclees are a perfect choice.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SIZE ART TO PURCHASE?

I recommend taping pieces of computer paper together to create a mockup the same size as your art. You can even tape it to your wall with blue framer’s tape get a sense of scale.  When you’re thinking about the frame size, you should add an additional 2-4″ on each side to account for the frame width.

I’m happy to help walk you through this process – just contact me.

Do you have an open studio?

I wish! My studio is pretty small, so the best place to view my art is online. I include inspiration photos to help you visualize art in your home. I also have a selection of paintings and prints available at Small Wonder Gallery in Camden, Maine.

Do you accept commissions?

Yes! Please visit my Commissions page to learn more about the process, pricing, and more.

I’M TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN TWO PAINTINGS. WILL YOU HOLD THEM FOR ME?

It’s hard to decide, isn’t it? Reach out to me and we’ll see what I can do.

Can I make changes to my order?

Possibly – please contact me immediately to see if your order has already been processed.
