This painting was inspired by a photo my dad, Chuck Whitney, took while birding. The light was captivating, perfectly illuminating the golden grasses and rocks while casting mysterious shadows across the scene. I have to admit the roof was black in the photo, but I thought it should be red. Not long after, they reshingled it in red. How's that for artistic license?
You can visit the lighthouse by taking the Swans Island Ferry from Bass Harbor.  It's a gorgeous way to spend the day.
