Why You'll Love It
Watercolor print of Sunset Surf captures the energy of waves crashing and swirling against the rocky shore of East Penobscot Bay on Deer Isle, Maine. Exceptionally crisp detail in the sun-warmed granite rocks and transparent water makes it look very lifelike. This is one of my personal favorite paintings. It was very challenging to paint, but it came out exactly as I hoped it would.
The original painting was inspired by a hike to the Barred Island Preserve in Sunset, Maine, at the far end of the trail where the ocean opens up toward Castine and Harborside. This is my favorite place to escape on Deer Isle and apparently I'm not alone. I remember when it had one parking lot with room for maybe 4 cars... Even so, this is still a wonderful place to sit on the rocks, watch the tide, and look for sea glass after hiking through the woods.
My Barred Island print shows the view just to the left, looking toward the island and rocky shore. You'd never know I used reference photos taken the same day, just minutes apart because the colors are a little different. Many people have opted to display together so they can have a conversation.
A perfect gift for anyone who loves to sit on the rocks and soak up the summer sunshine while listening to the waves. Pair with other Deer Isle and Penobscot Bay scenes for a curated gallery wall.
