Why You'll Love It
Watercolor print of Ocean Point captures the dramatic moment when surf crashes against the rocky shore at Ocean Point. This is just below Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Green Island just off in the distance catching its own waves and spray, and Ram Island Light appears on the horizon.
This painting really does capture a perfect summer day at Ocean Point (one of my favorite places on the Boothbay peninsula). It was sunny, warm, sailboats passing effortlessly on the breeze, and the tide was bringing in excellent waves. You couldn't ask for more! There was one other couple having a picnic on the rocks just to the right.
I had so much fun painting the big wave crashing in. Look closely at the wave and you can see just how realistic the water is. My favorite detail is the orange glow of the seaweed in the foreground. I didn't even notice it until I selected my reference photo and zoomed in to draw it.
This view from Ocean Point is accessible from the beach path just off the shore road. Park in the visitor lot or along the road, take a left, and you'll find plenty of rock-hopping opportunities.
A wonderful memento of Midcoast Maine. Pair with other Boothbay area scenes for a gallery wall to tell your story.
