Why You'll Love It
Watercolor print of Giant Stairs Surf captures a huge wave crashing against the rocks at Giant Stairs on Bailey Island in Harpswell, Maine.
The scale of the wave comes through in the details: the tiny birds in the churning surf below, the sailboat off in the distance, the plants clinging to the rocks at the edge.
My inspiration was the fabulous purple and green colors in the wave itself. Believe it or not, they are even brighter in my reference photo than I painted them. I was joined by a local cat who sat with me watching the waves crash. Excellent company!
The Giant Stairs get their name from the massive rock steps that descend into the sea, and this is one of the best spots on the Maine coast to watch dramatic surf at high tide. My painting Giant Stairs Path shows the wildflower-lined walk leading to this spot. A wonderful pair for anyone who loves Bailey Island.
This print adds serious color and energy to any room. Pair with other Harpswell and Midcoast Maine prints for your collection.
