Why You'll Love It
Watercolor print of Spirit Pond captures the sparkling, transparent water of this beautiful and little-known coastal preserve in Phippsburg, Maine. The water is crystal clear near the shore and dissolves into luminous light further out. I love how you can see the submerged rocks under the ripples of water.
Spirit Pond is right on the way to Popham Beach and Morse Mountain preserve. Most people drive past it without even realizing. The trail is gorgeous and the preserve is completely secluded. When the tide is out it's a wonderful place to tide pool, with crabs, periwinkles, fish, and all manner of other critters in the rocks. Shorebirds are always around, snowy egrets and cormorants among them, and the water on a sunny summer day is simply extraordinary. The best part is the dam, which I will paint one of these days. On either side of high tide, water rushes through it. I sometimes see folks exploring in their kayaks and canoes.
This Spirit Pond print would be a wonderful memento of your adventures in the Midcoast. You could create your own coastal gallery wall very easily.
