Original watercolor painting of Ode to Spring captures a happy chipping sparrow singing his morning song from an apple tree in full bloom in my parents' garden in Ellsworth, Maine.

Winter is very long in Maine, so if you lived here you would sing for joy at the sight of apple blossoms too! My favorite part of the painting is that tiny pink tongue. You can almost hear the thrill of spring in his song.

The painting originally had a white background, but it needed more contrast to make the flowers pop. Adding the deep green was exactly right. It brings so much lushness to the scene and makes the blossoms glow.

This is a very happy, optimistic painting. A wonderful gift for anyone who loves backyard birds or the arrival of spring. Pair with other Maine birds and nature prints for a cozy gallery wall.
