Blue Jay Painting
$490.00
Original watercolor painting of an inquisitive Blue Jay perching on a crabapple tree.
A curious Blue Jay hangs out on a branch in the garden at my Mom and Dad’s house in Ellsworth. He’s such a dear little bird. I originally left the background white, but decided he needed a little color to make his white feathers pop. I love how it turned out. This was my first bird painting (not counting distant gulls in the sky). Birds are SO much easier to paint than landscapes!
This beautiful Blue Jay painting would make a thoughtful gift for a backyard birder or nature lover in your life. The vibrant blues in his feathers really make the painting pop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I buy an original painting or a print?
Original paintings require more of a financial investment up front, but they also appreciate more in value over time. There’s also a satisfaction in knowing you have the only original painting. Giclees are more affordable and look exactly like the original paintings, so they are a great option for many.
While many of my collectors only purchase original art, others like to mix it up with both originals and giclees. It really depends on your budget and philosophy as a collector. If you’re just looking for some pretty paintings to add color or to give as a gift, giclees are a perfect choice.
What size painting should i purchase for my space?
I recommend taping pieces of computer paper together to create a mockup the same size as your art. You can even tape it to your wall with blue framer’s tape get a sense of scale. (I also recommend this technique for gallery walls.)
When you’re thinking about the frame size, you should add an additional 4-7″ on each side to account for the mat and frame. For example, a 14×22″ painting will probably take up 24×32″ of wall space.

Can I make changes to my order?
Possibly – please contact me immediately to see if your order has already been processed.
I’M TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN TWO PAINTINGS. WILL YOU HOLD THEM FOR ME?
It’s hard to decide, isn’t it? Reach out to me and we’ll see what I can do.
Do you have an open studio?
My studio is pretty cozy, so the best place to view my art is online. If you’re trying to make a decision and would like to see a painting before purchasing, please reach out to me.
Do you accept commissions?
Yes! I do a handful of commissions each year. Please visit my Commissions page to learn more about the process, pricing, and more.
How accurate are the colors online?
Please note that there are variances in color on different devices. The physical art matches what I see on my computer, but it might look slightly different on yours. For example, the colors are a little more muted on my phone and tablet than on my Mac. Also keep in mind also that the smaller the image, the sharper it appears online and in person.
DO YOU OFFER CUSTOM FRAMING?
I don’t provide framing services myself, but I’m happy to make suggestions! My 8×12″ and 10×14″ original paintings include a double white archival mats and backing board. They are ready to slip into 12×16″ or 10×14″ frames (easy to find). Buying unframed art enables the recipient to choose a frame that perfectly matches their decor.
